Six decades of love, prayer, and tradition

Their teacher was a Greek-American candy maker. He didn’t give them a written recipe. He stood with them in the basement, giving directions. In this way, on the night of February 9, 1956, the Trappistine nuns of Mount Saint Mary’s Abbey produced their first-ever batch of vanilla-nut caramel.

The next day, on the Feast of St. Scholastica, the whole community sampled the caramel for dessert. They gave it their wholehearted approval! From there it moved to the monastery gift shop, then to a mail order business, and is now one of the premier candy brands of New England.

Sixty-five years later, Trappistine Quality Candy still follows their original ground rules. Everything is handmade with no preservatives. The nuns use only top of the line ingredients, regardless of cost. And every sheet of brittle and square of chocolate is made with love and prayer!

With every purchase you make, you not only experience the joy of eating—you help the nuns continue their life of prayer for you and the whole world. And if you or a loved one are considering becoming a religious sister, don’t forget to check out Mount Saint Mary’s vocation page!
